The Fast Fashion Epidemic

In March 2019, I traveled to New Delhi and Jaipur to explore the intersection of fashion and sustainability. Collaborating with my team, I examined the contrasts between local and international markets, observed the far-reaching impacts of fast fashion, and envisioned a future apparel industry rooted in socially and environmentally responsible practices.

As part of an immersive experience with UNC’s FashionMash interdisciplinary design program, I produced a video installation that juxtaposes two contrasting realities. On the left, the work highlights the beauty of tradition, culture, and community, alongside India’s enduring sustainability movement. In contrast, it depicts the pollution, mass consumerism, water contamination, and wealth disparities that define the complex web of fast fashion.
